More than 50% of the plastics that we use are single-use plastics, or disposable plastics, used once and then thrown away! Look around you! The plastic packaging you just ripped off to reveal your new purchase, the colourful straw from which you sipped your cold coffee, the cutlery that served you hot snacks, the mineral water bottle in your bag and more such plastic items are making your life convenient, but are also killing you in the long run.
The earth is choking, plastic in oceans is killing poor marine animals, rivers and soils have microplastics. This is not all! Your blood stream is also showing signs of plastic.
Every plastic item cannot be recycled. So, that’s not a solution. The only solution is “Say No to Single-Use Plastics!”
Through our campaign, we spread awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastics and promote the use of eco-friendly products. We also distribute cloth bags and steel water bottles to discourage the blatant use of plastic carry bags and plastic water bottles.
The “Say No to Single-Use Plastics” campaign is a successful and renowned campaign that has found mention in newspapers and TV channels in five states.
The “Say No to Single-Use Plastic” campaign also aims at women’s empowerment. The cloth bags distributed during the campaigns are handmade by women from underprivileged backgrounds who earn a livelihood.
They receive training at the Savitrimai Phule Women’s Empowerment Centre. The Centre provides free training and employment opportunities to women from rural, tribal, and other financially and socially disadvantaged communities.
